About Ryco Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF's)

A Diesel Particulate Filter is located in the exhaust and forms part of the Emissions system. Its purpose is to remove combusted particulate matter (soot) from exhaust gasses. It does this by passing the gasses through a filter. These particulates are typically removed during a DPF 'Burn', however these burns are not always successful due to diving conditions. Once a DPF has reached it's capacity, like all blocked filters, it will need to be changed.

Typically a DPF will fail due to:

  • A Lack of DPF regeneration activity (short trips with no highway driving)
  • Poor quality Diesel
  • Incorrect Oil
  • Faulty operation of Turbo and EGR System
Correct fault diagnosis will help identify the problem before replacement may be required
